Fear is a natural reaction experienced universally by everyone.Fear arises with the threat of harm, either physical, emotional, or psychological, real or imagined. While traditionally considered a “negative” emotion, fear actually serves an important role in keeping us safe as it mobilizes us to cope with potential danger.
Fear can create strong signals of response when we’re in emergencies – for instance, if we are caught in a fire or are being attacked.It can also take effect when you’re faced with non-dangerous events, like public speaking, exams, a new college or job, a date, or even a party. It’s a natural response to a threat that can be either perceived or real.
Fear can last for a short time and then pass, but it can also last much longer and you can get stuck with it. In some cases Fear can take over your life, affecting your ability to sleep, eat concentrate, travel, enjoy life, or even leave the house or go to work or school. This can hold you back from doing things you want or need to do, and it also affects your health.
Fear may be a one-off feeling when you are faced with something unfamiliar.
But it can also be an everyday, long-lasting problem – even if you can’t put your finger on why. Dangerous Fears like Fire, Attack, Flood etc. need to be manged by making our responses faster and taking preemptive measures. For example, being prepared for fires in our homes and offices by keeping fire extinguishers, preparing to move away or stock up in case of a flood or tornado warning and in recent times self quarantining oneself from the pandemic and so on. Of course, in some cases things may not be in our own hands and in these cases being fearful is good as it encourages us to respond and take action to save ourselves.
Non dangerous fears like public speaking, exams, joining a new school or joining a new job are different and there are many ways to handle these fears.The easiest way to overcome these kind of fears is to "Feel the Fear But Do It Anyway".
